Our Tofurky Roast 2010

Holidays can be a rough time for vegetarians and vegans. Besides the usual stress that family get-togethers can bring, there is the extra issue of food. Will there be anything there that you can eat? Will anyone eat the food you bring? Bene, Tofurky has helped people since 1995 when they first came out with their Tofurky Roast.

I remember my first meat-free Thanksgiving. I bought a Tofurky Roast and it was so good. Way better than I thought it was going to be. Perhaps I had been influenced by the episode of Everybody Loves Raymond where Marie makes a tofu turkey and everyone hates it. It is a hysterical episode that I still love watching today!

But unlike the Ramones, I know that a compassionate holiday dinner does not have to mean sacrifice. Not when Tofurky makes their delicious Tofurky Feast!

I’m happy to tell you that this will be my very first vegan Thanksgiving. Not only did I begin a plant-based diet at the beginning of the year, but my mom and aunt recently joined in! It’s exciting that we’re all in this together for our first vegan feast. We’re planning to use Tofurkey, a vegan green bean casserole, e naturalmente, the usual sweet potatoes, ecc. I’ll have to let you know how it turns out!

P.S. I haven’t told my kids yet. Shhhh… oppure oppure

I wish I could post about a tofurky memory but I’ve never had it, usually the rest of the family cooks for me it became a tradition years ago when I started getting depressed on Thanksgiving between the turkeys and my bit of native american heritage. I think I will try it this year tho and start a new tradition 😉

I live in North Dakota. The closest place to get tofurky products is 150 miles from where I live. My husbands family does try to make things for me to eat at holidays or get togethers but I rarely attend events because of the questions and I usually go home starving. With that being said my favorite, yearly holiday and tofurky memory is every christmas. I fly back to see my family, friends and I get to enjoy my very own tofurky mini feast! My parents go out of their way to have the things I have a hard time getting in ND. To have tofurky products delivered to my house would be awsome. We wouldnt have to skip out on thanksgiving this year!

I embraced a vegan lifestyle in January 2011 after learning more about the meat and dairy industries. This will be my first vegan Thanksgiving! My family is very supportive and is open to trying vegan food this Thanksgiving. I have been researching great recipes for stuffing and mashed potatoes, but still need to figure out a main dish. It’s very likely that I will include some Tofurky items, because some of the other Tofurky items I have tried are really good! Cheers to a great vegan-friendly holiday season! Kriss,

Every year I buy multiple Tofurkey feasts & use them to entertain omnivores. I fix extra stuffing, purè di patate, patate dolci, cranberry relish, piselli & carote, & Torta di zucca — all vegan, naturalmente. It makes a great meal. I’m sorry to see the holiday season end, & I try to have a couple of Tofurkeys in my freezer for the new year.

I have never had Tofurky before, but I really want to try it this year. I’ve had some meals with family where all I ate were the vegetables. I’ve also had some homemade gluten roasts when I ate with veg friends. My own tries at seitan were not so good.
They have a turkey give away where I work before Christmas. I’ve been asking the Dietary Manager to order some Tofurkey’s for the vegetarians and vegans this year. Karen

I became vegan three years ago and I slap myself a thousand times since I have barely discovered Tofurky Roast last Thanksgiving. I had low hopes of the roast since I have had bad experiences with my meat, but to my surprise, it tasted delicious. My then partner and I ate the leftovers as a burrito, and that was the best burrito I have ever tasted! On the Thanksgiving day, we ate the Turkey with the usual side dishes and I was quite happy that the fake turkey was so delish. I have been calling my local areas for Tofurky for so long, and I still wait patiently. The leftovers were the best because I woke up hungry and that delicious turkey was still there! It felt like Christmas in the morning but on the day after Thanksgiving!

A couple years ago I tried making seitan for the first time. My plan was to make my own tofurky roll with stuffing inside. I can’t really describe it, but it didn’t go well. I still haven’t mastered seitan … so we just make a mountain of sides, and usually cook for everyone else. Così, IOW, my best Tofurky moment is yet to be :).

Hi Rhea! This will actually be our first vegan holiday!!!! We’ve only been on the V journey since April and I’m so excited to think we might actually be feasting on your tofuturky roast and sides!!! As we are about to celebrate our 8 year wedding anniversary on the 9th and funds are really low and vegan food scarce and hard to find I pray we will win this awesome prize. If we don’t we’ll still be eating something vegan and we’ll be sending up prayers for thanksgiving for wonderful people like you to inspire us in our lives. Much love and Happy Holiday blessings to you and yours. Amore, Pami Jane and hubby Andrew <3

My best tofurky experience would be the first time I shared it with my non-veg family and they liked it!

  12. Anonimo Novembre 4, 2011 a 2:50 su #

The past two Thanksgivings since we went vegan were both held at a relative’s large home with a lot of people in attendance – maybe about 40 oppure 50. The first year we just ate nothing but vegetables and salads, but last year we were honored that one of the cooks chose to barbecue a HUGE variety of vegetables, just to accomodate us. There’s a gigantic grill there, and he filled it up several times with eggplants, squash, patate, portabello mushrooms, lots more. He seasoned them SO deliciously that even though there were only 3 vegan guests, the platter piled high with these veggies was the most popular dish there. It was awesome to see people realize that MEAT IS NOT A NECESSITY! 🙂

My boyfriend and I have tofurky on the day after thanksgiving (weird, giusto?)…but it’s become our tradition when it’s just the two of us when all of the family has left…thanks so much for the giveaway!!

My husband and I become vegan about 2 years ago and the first Thanksgiving was difficult! But last year, we had a Tofurkey FEAST and I can’t wait to do it again this year!

  15. Suzy Kabloozy Novembre 3, 2011 a 2:48 su #

Thanksgiving last year was the day that my family went totally vegan and was my first attempt at a big vegan meal for meat eaters as well. Not everything turned out great, but the Tofurky was a huge hit and made up for the stuffing that I couldn’t quite figure out. Quest'anno, I have much more experience and I expect it to be a day to remember. We have so much to be thankful for, not the least of which is the choice to adopt a compassionate lifestyle. Because Tofurky was a part of that special day, I will always have a soft spot in my heart for it. 🙂

  16. Hungry Hippo Novembre 3, 2011 a 2:24 su #

My best Tourkey Thanksgiving was last year. It was just myself, my wife and our daughter. We cooked up the Tofurkey and had a wonderful time just the 3 di noi. It might sound boring, but my wife and my daughter are my life, so being able to just relax and enjoy the holiday without having to defend our compassionate life was absolute bliss.

  17. ravensrun65 Novembre 3, 2011 a 2:12 su #

While I haven’t had a tofurky holiday meal, I LOVE tofurky!lol I’d love to have this winning package to share with others that are just learning and experiencing how wonderful a compassionate meal is! Hoping everyone is safe and happy this holiday season!

  18. Jacey Novembre 3, 2011 a 2:09 su #

On Thanksgiving, I always serve a Tofurky and my homemade pierogies (Made with vegan ingredients, naturalmente!). The best Thanksgiving was when I made the pierogies with whole wheat flour. Yum!

I’ve only had one experience with Tofurkey and it wasn’t the best. I cooked it and then transported it for an hour or so and it was a long time before we ate. It was cold, and I think the water had condensed on it. (Now don’t get me wrong, it tasted a little like turkey, but I hadn’t had the courage to buy it and cook it myself since then.) But I have tried it that someone else cooked and it was amazing!

I think our best Thanksgiving was a couple years ago where we hosted the dinner. We informed family that it would be completely vegan. My parents and sisters showed up late traveling 5 hours from South Carolina (we suspect they stopped somewhere to eat). We were nervous that everyone would not like the dinner, which included 2 Tofurky Roast to accommodate the larger group, mac n cheese, roasted potatoes, purè di patate, asparagi, and pie, but in the end everyone loved it and all had second servings. Unfortunately there were no leftovers, as like the previous years, in which we create little plates for our dogs to enjoy, so they missed out that year.

The very first year my spouse and I went vegan, we had a huge Thanksgiving celebration with about 20+ guests! We cooked a Tofurky Roast, vegan ham and everything else you associate with Thanksgiving food. We had so much food! I think the best part was being able to show people that we were not sacrificing ANYTHING by being vegan. We had some amazing holiday food without the cruelty!

  23. Kelly Doerschner Novembre 2, 2011 a 3:26 pm #

I have been a vegetarian for 6 years and for the past two years around this time of year I have been on a mad search trying to find some where that sells the tofurky roast I have found all kinds of other tofurkey products in store but have been unable to find this particular product I want to try it so bad though. Usually during thanksgiving time I just eat mashed potatoes, and veggies and like a veggie burger, and salad but I really wanna make a tofurky roast part of my tradition.

My best tofurky holiday was when my husband bought one for our anniversary. Surprise you get to cook, but it was worth it. Yum tofurky!

  27. Susan Novembre 2, 2011 a 2:26 pm #

I have had one vegan Thanksgiving, but was not fortunate enough to try any Tofurkey products … I was broke and just made my own vegan green bean casserole! I love Tofurkey products though, especially the Italian sausage – perfect for spaghetti!

The best Tofurkey experience that I’ve ever had was during a Gentle Thanksgiving last year, that was put on by FMVEG (Fargo-Moorhead vegetarians and vegans). It was divine! I can’t wait for the Gentle Thanksgiving to happen again this year!

  29. Brittany Novembre 2, 2011 a 11:59 su #

My best Thanksgiving experience was when my in-laws and the rest of my husband’s family tried to accommodate me on Thanksgiving by making mashed potatoes without butter and cream and some other baby foodish things… I have a feeling that this Thanksgiving will be a great one… my husband is now Vegan and so is our new baby and she will be celebrating her first Thanksgiving! So much to be thankful for!!

I have yet to have a vegan holiday. I am still fairly new to the vegan lifestyle. I would love to start some memories this year though! 🙂

My boyfriend and I tried a tofurky feast one year and we went through the awkward part of learning about it and cooking it. It was so much fun though preparing our own vegan meal together and really a moment of bonding. Eating something on a day of Thanks without an animal included in the meal is really something beautiful and something I will always fondly remember.

I think my best Tofurkey related Thanksgiving memory is cooking one at my apartment last year. We were able to host a friend and cook for the holiday ourselves for the first time without being exposed to a dead bird in the kitchen. I look forward to having our Tofurkey feast every year.

Cooking Thanksgiving dinner has always been a bit of bonding session for me and my dad ever since I was big enough to help him. So the first year I went vegan I was really flustered as to what to cook. But my dad was so helpful when coming up with ideas how to substitute all the animals products. The day before hand I was browsing the store and actually came across a Tofurky roast! And my dad came up with a great way to baste it! I ended up making homemade dressing, sugo, sweet potato pie, green bean casserole. Something s turned out better than most, and I’m glad to say my cooking skills have improved alot since then! But the Tofurky turned out great! 🙂
